Homer

Billy Boy was Bertrand’s first android. He was built out of desperation during a time when Bertrand was feeling exceptionally lonely. He had recently purchased the three hundred acres in northern Minnesota. It had been shortly after Minnesota had become a state. He had built a cabin by a little lake and settled in for the winter which had become brutally cold with deep layers of snow.

One day he was putting away new android parts, and he decided he would create his own android. He broke all the rules of android building. He built the android as close to human as he could figure out how to do. He knew it was wrong. However, he has always believed that it wasn’t his process that made his androids human, but it was the hand of God. Billy Boy was a good companion. He was also a good cook.

He decided he would make another android. This android was named Homer. He traveled with Bertrand.  When Bertrand realized the mutant BlueStone were in danger of losing their homes on Solana, Homer helped him build the colony in Minnesota. It started with one building and grew over time. When the mutant BlueStone became refugees, their new home was ready.

Homer took on the job of maintenance. Water supply. Heating. Recycling. Refrigerators and Stoves. Showers. All that good stuff.  He had a staff.  He had a room in the community north of the lake community, his preference.   His office was next to Mary and Thomas’ offices. Most in the colony didn’t realize he was an android.

He had a staff of ten and they were kept busy.  The only thing he wished were different  was his staff spending the night in the dining halls.  Finally, he went to Bertrand and requested rooms for his team. Just as he thought, it had been an oversite. His staff moved into a brand new building. Homer moved in with them.

Homer was glad to see that even with the influx of regular people, he and Bertrand were still friends. Homer realized that all the new humans did not share Bertrand’s view.  He was glad Bertrand was in charge.
